How Do You Get Rid Of Adware?

Getting rid of adware can be, at times, no walk in the park. Adware designers specifically tailor their software to prevent it from being truly removed, so you have to go through extensive lengths to remove all traces of it.

To get started, you should check over your msconfig startup information. Open start/run, type in MSCONFIG, and press ok. On the system configuration utility that pops up, click on the startup tab. For all of the items listed, google their name (the one under Startup Item) and see if it's malicious or not. Iterate through all of them to make sure your system is completely free of malware.

In case you do find something malicious, you can't just remove it, as that would be too easy. Look under the command column to find the directory where the program is stored. Write it down on a piece of paper, and reboot your system in safe mode (make sure to bookmark this article so you can get back to it later) and then open the directory where the adware is stored. Delete the adware program, then open up msconfig and uncheck its box under the startup item column. This will prevent it from starting when your computer boots.

Reboot your system, and you should have freed yourself from the adware. If it returns despite your efforts, you may have to look up specific instructions for removing that particular adware online. It's an uphill battle, but keeping your system adware free lends to a smoother, faster, and safer browsing experience.
