Once you decided to upgrade the memory of your computer, you have to gather all required information so that you can choose the right type of memory module for your system. You should know which type and size of module is compatible with your PC and which is already available in your system. We need to collect information about our system so that accordingly we can proceed further towards memory up-gradation.
Before memory upgrade one should check operating system and application program, often there is information in printed form “Minimum” and “Recommended” somewhere on the package or it may be in the manual so we need to check the manual carefully and collect the desired information for up-gradation. You need to find out highest number from the recommended section.
The specification of module is a factor also need to check during memory upgrade. Any one can check it through manuals which are received with your computer and the mother board. This is important because it will list out exact type, size and number of memory modules that are supported. If you miss anything from the manuals there would be a problem for you. In case you can't find the information on the manual you may check with retailers or manufacturers because they have this information with them.
This would be good to try and purchase as few modules as possible for the amount of that memory which we want to install for memory upgrade. By this we can increase the potential for future upgrades on our system. For example, if you have three memory module slots and one of them has 1 GB memory module so this would be better to buy 2 512 MB modules rather than 1, 1GB Module for up-gradation from 1 GB to 2 GB.
