An integrated graphics card is part of the computer motherboard. This is usually the case in laptop computers. Once laptop video cards wear out, the laptop owner usually has no recourse but to buy a new laptop computer. On desktops, however, it is easy to disable an integrated graphics card and attach a dedicated graphics card.
Because integrated graphics cards are limited in shape and size by the type of motherboard to which it is integrated, they are typically less powerful than dedicated graphics cards. This does not mean that they are not useful. Integrated graphics card are powerful enough to play your favorite DVDs and low-profile PC games. If you want to play modern PC games with heavy 3D graphics though, you will need a dedicated graphics cards. Otherwise, the PC games will not run smoothly and have very poor frame rates.

Dedicated graphics cards are generally more powerful than integrated ones and make for a more colorful computing experience. These computer hardware have onboard memory which is similar to RAM, whereas integrated graphics cards have to borrow memory from system RAM. The onboard memory is very helpful if you play PC games using large resolutions.
Dedicated graphics cards certainly offer more than integrated graphics cards, but these extra features will be useless if you do not use them. Thus, consider your needs carefully when deciding on a graphics card for your computer.
