A laptop or notebook computer offers many benefits. However, there are some disadvantages associated with it. Often, a laptop is extremely subject to data theft. The stolen data or information might be most crucial such as the network password or confidential e-mails.
The data might even contain details of credit cards, social security numbers, financial estimates and pin codes of ATM's. In addition, the stolen data may include individual details such as the engineering or an architect designs, or a musician's composition.
Health hazards
The design of a laptop is such that the user works on it by placing it on the lap. However, working uninterruptedly on the laptop for hours may sometimes cause serious neck pain.

Other than serving many advantages such as easy mobility and trimness, there are some negative aspects also, which are as below:
1. Though a laptop is easy to carry anywhere, it may sometimes hamper the performance of an operating system and programs due to climatic changes and severe weather conditions.
2. Many a time, the laptop components face standardization problem. The components include the electric voltage, internal adapters that connect to hard disks, motherboard layouts, cable of the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen and the optical drives.
3. If there are technical problems in the laptop, especially while traveling, it may cause the work to halt. To resume working, the user might have to search for any laptop repair stores or a technician for locating and troubleshooting the problem.
4. Laptop users need to have a basic idea of its hardware, so nobody cheats them on the repair charges. Sometimes, it has a minor problem for which the user ends paying a hefty sum.
5. Laptop components are always manufacturer-specific. It means that no other components are able to replace any of its non-functional part.
6. Laptop upgrade also has some issues. Because of its design, it becomes difficult to upgrade it, when the components are not easily available on the market.
7. As for the batteries and memory units of a laptop, users can upgrade them as per their needs. However, on non-availability of the same, the upgrade becomes difficult for the user.
8. Often, the performance of laptop is low as the Random Access Memory (RAM) divides itself between the graphic adapters and program memory.
9. The laptop's operating temperature may affect sterility in most men.
10. Its keyboard may lead to Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI).
