How to Identify the Marks in the Device Manager

Device Manager is a powerful management tool of the computer hardware devices, through it we can see the detailed information about all the devices installed in the computer, such as the device names and properties, and we also can install or update drivers, disable or unload devices through this tool.
You can follow the approaches below to open the Device Manager:

Method 1

Step 1 Right-click My Computer, select Properties to open the Properties dialog box.

Step 2 Switch to the Hardware tab, and choose Device Manager to enter its sheet.

Method 2

Step 1 Click Start and click Control Panel.

Step 2 Double-click System, select Hardware in the System properties sheet, and click Device Manager. There you will see all hardware devices that installed in your local computer, for example, disk drives, CPU, network adapter, sound, video and game controllers and so on.

Here I will introduce some problem marks in the Device Manager. A red cross mark If there is a red cross mark beside a device, it indicates that this device has been disabled. Actually, in order to save system resources and improve your computer running speed, you can disable some seldom used devices in the Device Manager. A yellow interrogation mark or exclamatory mark If you find there is a yellow interrogation mark or exclamatory mark next to a device, the former indicates that Windows system can not identify this device correctly while the latter indicates that its driver has not been installed or it has been installed improperly. To cancel these two marks, you can right-click this device, choose Unload to uninstall it, and then restart the computer. Most of the time the Windows XP system is able to identify and install device drivers automatically, but in some cases, you need to insert a driver disk and follow its instructions to set up the drivers. Perform Driver Checker right now to see what drivers your computer need to install or update!
