The processor or CPU is the most important piece of hardware in your computer. It is the brain, where every command is given out at your request. Having a powerful CPU helps you in computing smoothly with little too no lag. Until not too long ago the fastest processors were dual core. This has changed with the new technology of quad core which is technically 2 times better than dual core. A quad core processor is basically 4 processors working together and a dual core processor is 2 processors working together.

You can upgrade your current desktop too quad core but you'll probably have too get a new motherboard if you have an old computer. In the processor business game there are only two brand options AMD or INTEL. There are many people who say Intel is better and others who say AMD is better. The names don't really matter its all about the specs of the CPU. Computer enthusiasts usually are spit down the middle on this issue.
The latest thing is putting quad core processors into laptops. The processors aren't at the same level as the higher end desktop processors but they are still faster than dual core.
