Tips Cleaning Your Computer Screen

Some people are hesitant to clean up their computer screens for fear of scratching the surface or damaging sensitive components. Cleaning up your computer screen, whether your monitor is a CRT or an LCD, is actually a safe task to do if you follow these four simple tips!

* Turn Off Your Monitor

When cleaning or repairing computer hardware, it is a standard operating procedure to turn off the equipment and unplug it from the wall socket. This protects both you and your computer hardware from devastating electrical shocks. Turning off your computer monitor also serves another purpose: It helps you see the dirt and dust better so you know where to wipe!

* Use a Clean, Soft and Lint-free Cloth

Use a clean and very soft cloth to wipe your computer screen. A rough textured fabric, or debris in a dirty rag, can scratch your computer screen. In addition, use a lint-free cloth so you will not have lint splattered all over your screen. You can get a special cloth that is specially designed for cleaning LCD surfaces at your local hardware store. They work just as well for CRT monitors too.

* Do Not Apply Any Liquid Directly on Your Screen

You can effectively dust off your computer screen with a dry cloth. If your monitor is stamped with fingerprints and other stains, you may need to employ a mild cleaning solution. In this case, never apply any cleaning solution directly on your computer screen. Instead, dampen your cleaning cloth slightly and use it to gently rub away the stains. Be careful not to accumulate dirt and dust at the edges of the screen as this makes them harder to remove. After using a damp cloth, allow your monitor to dry up completely before turning it on.

* Be Gentle

Do not exert too much pressure on your computer screen. If you push too hard, you may damage screen pixels and they will no longer light up. This leaves your monitor with unsightly patches of dead spots.

Cleaning your computer is not too difficult now that you know how to do it right! Try to regularly clean your computer screen so you can enjoy clearer pictures and images.
