The network consists of two or more computers linked together in order to share the resources such as a printer or a scanner, exchange files and enable the electronic connectivity. The network cables are the data transmission cables which are used to connect one network device to another. These cables are capable of transferring the data at high speed between different components of the network.
cable used for a particular network depends on the network’s topology, size and protocol. Normally, the cables providing high speed and error free connectivity are used when the network has large number of network devices.
The network cables are the backbone of any network. Some of the cables used in today’s times are the unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cables, fiber optic cables and coaxial cables. The most commonly used cable is the UTP. It is mainly used for school networks as it is capable of transferring the data at the rate of 100 mbps. The fiber optic cables consist of a center glass core which is surrounded by several layers of protective materials. This type of network cables transmits light rather than electronic signals and transfers signals over longer distances than the coaxial and twisted pair cables. The coaxial cables have single copper conductor at their center. There is a plastic layer which provides insulation between the center of the conductor and the braided metal shield.
